A big Thank you!
A big thank you to all those folk who supported me and my family in our support of ELCAP as part of 2022’s Edinburgh Kiltwalk. We were one of the 5000 strong crowd of folk supporting 500 charities, all with our own stories and purpose for taking part on behalf of our designated charities. With your kind support, the Fantastic Florys raised over £700, with the generous Hunter Foundation giving half again to support our chosen charity ELCAP.
On the day, I heard stories of turning personal loss into a passion to promote and support designated charities. I heard of belief in the good work that their particular charity offers their local community. There were also tails of how certain causes and charities could feel forgotten about, unless they or someone like them, held the torch to remind people they were there when needed.
It was a humbling experience to hear these moving stories of why, what got them out of bed on that particular Sunday morning, and what drove them to push themselves out of their comfort zone.
For me, it was the desire to go the extra mile as a board member, to demonstrate that my faith in what ELCAP do for local families and individuals by supporting them to lead independent and full lives. And it was a life lesson for my children, reminding them to be grateful for what they have in their lives, great physical and mental health, and that whilst their legs may ache the next day it would soon be over. Yet for many people, the aches, pains and discomfort never go away.
I’d love to say they totally appreciated the sentiment in this family lesson – but the reality was they were just happy it was over and much more appreciated the snacks along the way. As a parent, I wanted them to get the message now, but as a coach, I know that learning can sometimes take time to come.
Once again, thank you for generous donations and kind wishes.
